The champion of the Australian Open admitted that she had been thinking about the Russian final since the beginning of the tournament
Russian tennis player Alina Korneeva admitted that she initially allowed the Russian final at the junior Australian Open.
Korneeva won the tournament by defeating compatriot Mirra Andreeva in three games.
– Not that the Russian final was a surprise. Maybe at the beginning of the tournament I was thinking about this final. Clearly, you need to think about each match in order: about the first, second rounds and so on. But I thought that we were in different parts of the grid and together we could reach the final. I’m very glad about it. We constantly had good matches for children in Russia and not only. Therefore, to meet in the final of the Australian Open is very cool.
Probably two or three years ago, when we played with Mirra, it was harder. I thought more that we were friends. And when you realize that this is the Grand Slam final, there are no such thoughts at all. Behind the court, we are her best friends, on the court we are opponents, ”Korneeva told the Championship.
Korneeva is ranked 553rd in the WTA rankings. Before winning the AO, she had eight wins at the junior level and one ITF tournament won.
