“In the women’s final of the Australian Open, everything was decided in just a few important balls” – Selivanenko

Alexei Selivanenko, Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF), told Vprognoze.ru that any of the semi-finalists of the Australian Open could have won the tournament.

Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko became the winner of the tournament, beating Wimbledon 2022 champion Elena Rybakina in the final with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:4.

– Didn’t it seem to you that after Rybakina’s victory over Shventek, the tennis player from Kazakhstan is the strongest of the remaining ones? So how does a 2-0 victory over the favorite of the tournament by default give the right to think so?

— The victory over the favorite does not mean at all that you automatically become the favorite. Any of the four semi-finalists has a chance to win the trophy, everything is decided on the court on the day of the match. Lena, Arina, Vika – each of them could win. In the final, everything was decided in just a few important balls.
