Nick Kyrgios’ ex-partner, Chiara Passari, had accused him of assault, he admitted the charges, but the court did not hand down a sentence against him.

Nick Kyrgios was put on trial early Friday (02/03) for the assault he committed on his ex-partner around two years ago.

At the time, Chiara Passari reported that he pushed her, causing her to fall onto the sidewalk after the two argued.

During the case’s trial, Nick Kyrgios admitted that the specific incident did indeed take place and explained that his ex-partner prevented him from leaving the crime scene.

However, the court did not punish him. In particular, it was noted that his act it was of minor severity for a joint attack and not intentional because, as emphasized in the decision, it was about “a single act of stupidity or outrage”.

The judge then told him: “They acted in the heat of the moment. I will treat you as I would treat any young man in this court. You are just a young man who happens to hit the tennis ball exceptionally well.”.

Kyrgios’ reaction to the decision

A few hours after the decision was announced, Nick Kyrgios referenced the decision via social media he maintains: “I respect today’s decision and am grateful to the court for dismissing the charges without a conviction. I was not feeling well when this happened and I responded to a difficult situation in a way that I regret. I know it was wrong and I’m really sorry for the damage I caused.

Mental health is tough. Life can seem overwhelming but I have found that getting help and working on myself has allowed me to feel better and be better.

I can never thank Costeen, my family and friends enough for supporting me in this cause. Now I intend to focus on recovering from my injury and doing my best.”.
