WTA: Swiodek triumph in Doha

Iga Swiodek put on an incredible performance and celebrated her 2nd title at the 1000 WTA tournament (Rome 2021 1st) and defeated Annette Contaveit in the final of the Qatar Open.

The 20-year-old Pole lost just two matches against the world No. 7 tennis player to claim the 4th WTA title of her career and 1st after the triumph of Rome with the emphatic 6-2, 6-0 in 66 minutes.

Then he equalized Carolina Pliskova 6-0, 6-0. Now he loses only two games and achieves another great dominance. That said, in the two finals he’s played in 1000 aces so far, he’s…made three bagels and won 4-0 sets, winning 24-2 games.

Swiodek, who defeated Maria Sakkari in straight sets in the semifinals, started a 10-0 winning streak from 2-2 in the 1st set, equalizing Contavehite, who had nine straight wins on the tour through to the Doha final .

Finishing the match 29/44 off serve and 6/11 break points, the 20-year-old forced her Estonian opponent to just 16/44 off serve and 1/7 break points.

In the 5th final of her career, Swiodek achieved her 4th title and as of next week rises to her career record, No. 4 in the WTA World Rankings and gains four spots with the title course in Qatar.

Despite his loss in the final, Contaveit will climb to No. 5 and improve on his career record (No. 6) and enter the top 5 in the world for the first time.
