Tsitsipas: “Our goal is to win the Davis Cup in 3-4 years”

During the national team’s press conference, Stefanos Tsitsipas stated, among other things, that he would like to win the Davis Cup in the coming years. What Pervolarakis, Skorilas and national coach Dimitris Hatjinikolau said.

At the national tennis team’s press conference before the Davis Cup games on Friday afternoon, Stefanos Tsitsipas noted, among other things, that he would like to win the Davis Cup in the coming years.

What Pervolarakis, Skorilas and national coach Dimitris Hatjinikolau said.

We should note that the team leader is Apostolos Tsitsipas and national coach Dimitris Hatzinikolaou, while the members of the Greek team are doctor Dionysis Hissas, gymnast Christos Fiotakis, psychologist Kostas Pergantis, physiotherapist Apostolos Michalakas and assistant coach Thanasis Manekas.

Greece national team press conference:

Stefanos Tsitsipas was the first to speak and said:

“First of all, I would like to say that it is a great honor for us to be here. Our goal, as extreme and absurd as it may sound, is the Davis Cup title in 3-4 years. It’s something I believe in, something I’ve dreamed of since I was little and I’m glad the event has returned to its old format. Winning the Davis Cup alongside my teammates is one of the 3 tennis goals I want to achieve in my career.”

Afterwards, in response to a question to Michalis Pervolarakis about his injury and if he is 100% ready to compete, the Greek tennis player said:

“It’s a problem that I’m trying to solve. We have training today, we’ll see how things go. There are other guys who are playing very well, we’ll see how the last training session goes. At the moment I’m the one he will play tomorrow and if anything changes we will see in the next few hours.”

Regarding the presence of the people at OAKA and how it will affect the Greek players, national team coach Dimitris Hatzinikolaou replied:

“We’re expecting a lot of people tomorrow. As a team we will do our best and fight for this coveted qualification. I’m sure all these people will influence our own team, it will make them play better, but it will also affect the Ecuadorian team. Maybe they will play tighter under these conditions. I don’t think it can negatively affect Stefanos because of his performances abroad. I think Michalis has big competition experience too. He’s comfortable in front of the crowd and I don’t think he’ll have any problems.”

Alexandros Skorilas received a question about the realignment of OAKA and emphasized:

The truth is that this is the first time in Greece that we have seen such a large indoor stadium with so many people. When we saw the stadium we got a big appetite to train there let alone play a game. When we found out the games would be held in OAKA, we all had a dream to compete with so many people supporting us and screaming for Greece. It just whets our appetite to go out there and give 100 percent.”

Concluding on a question about the players that make up the Ecuador national team, the national coach said:

“The first danger is that we have to play singles against two players that we don’t know well enough because we don’t have a complete picture of them. If they were better placed, we could learn them via video. Now that we know from our own information, but also from their training.

So this is definitely a trap that won’t help us. The players they have in doubles are quite good, they have a good position in the rankings and we know what to expect from two good players. With single players there is a risk that we don’t know them well and we should “read” them in the first games to give them appropriate instructions.
