Thanos 2-0 Andrade: Big win for Aristotle and Greece, just one win away from qualifying
Aristotelis Thanos put in a great performance, beating Andrade 2-0 and Greece are one win away from qualifying for the Davis Cup playoffs.
A great victory was won by Aristotle Thanos. The 21-year-old Greek tennis player won a 2-0 set against Andrade and now Greece are just one win away from qualifying for September’s Davis Cup playoffs.
To better understand the magnitude of Thanos’ victory, suffice it to say that the two tennis players are separated by around 1000 places in the world rankings (No. 1578 for the Greek, No. 564 for his opponent).
The match: Aristotle Thanos went into the match with the expected fear. Andrade capitalized on this as he quickly broke and then held to take a 2-0 lead.
As time went on, the 21-year-old Greek tennis player picked up the pace, managing to win back the break in game ten to make it 5-5, then holding serve to take the lead for the first time.
Andrade held on and sent the set into the tie break, but Thanos was cooler there. The Greek tennis player showed patience, taking advantage of his opponent’s low percentage behind the second serve to make it 7-6 (4) to make it 1-0.
In the second set it was easier for the Greek tennis player. He entered the set in a good mood and took the lead 4:0!
Andrade managed to break to 5-4, but Thanos finally managed to hold to end the match 6-4.
