Sakkari: Maria’s lottery in Linz, Austria
The draw has been made for Maria Sakkari for the tournament in Leeds, where she will meet Nuria Parithas Diath in the first round.
The season continues for Maria Sakkari in Austria, where she will compete in the Linz tournament (WTA 250) and is No. 1 in the rankings.
The leading Greek tennis player (No. 7 in the world) meets Nuria Parithas Diath (No. 75) in the first round. This is the fourth time Sakkari has faced the 31-year-old Spaniard but only the first time on the WTA Tour.
The previous three were many years back when the two competed in ITF tournaments. There, Sakkari had won twice and the Spaniard once.
Their confrontation is expected to take place on Tuesday (07/02). She then meets either Anna Blinkova or an athlete from the qualification.
In the quarterfinals she will likely face Donna Vekic, while in the semifinals Irina Camelia Begu seems to be the favorite to get by.
On the other side of the plaque are the names of Anastasia Potapova, Angelina Kalinina, Bernarda Pera and Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Four Ukrainian tennis players were included in the doubles entry list Australian Open 2025.
Ukrainian women will play in the doubles tournament on the courts of Melbourne: Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok and Nadezhda Kichenok. Unfortunately, there will be no all-Ukrainian tandem in Australia.
Kostyuk will perform alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Aus Open, and Yastremskaya will play alongside Alisha Parks.
Lyudmila and Nadezhda will not play together at AO-2026, although they will start the season with the same duet in the Brisbane 500 meters. It was announced that Lyudmila will be with Katie Volynets, and Nadezhda will be with Makoto Ninomiya.
Australian Open 2026 will take place from January 12 to February 1. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya and Alexandra Oleynikova will represent Ukraine in singles. Yulia Starodubtseva, Angelina Kalinina, Daria Snigur and Vitaly Sachko will perform in the eliminations.

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
The best among Russians remains Daniil Medvedev, located in 13th place, Andrei Rublev is 16th. There have been no changes in the top ten rankings: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is in the lead, Italian Jannik Sinner is second, and German representative Alexander Zverev is in third.
