Swiatek close to the podium, Barty still untouchable
(Paris) The Polish Iga Swiatek reached fourth place in the world on Monday thanks to her victory in Doha on Saturday, followed by her opponent in the final, the Estonian Anett Kontaveit, in a WTA ranking still dominated by Ashleigh Barty.
The 20-year-old, winner of Roland-Garros in 2020, jumped four places thanks to her performance in Qatar, where she conceded only one set during the entire tournament, dismissing two other members of the Top 10: Greek Maria Sakkari and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
Sabalenka also falls to third place in the WTA rankings, in favor of the Czech Barbora Krejcíková, who remains however far from the Australian Barty, at almost 3000 points.
The other Top 10 Czech, Karolina Pliskova, continues to fall slowly, still injured. The former N.1 has still not played in competition this year.
Beaten by Sakkari in the quarter-finals of the Doha tournament, the young American Cori Gauff (17) also climbed four places and made her return to the top 20, to 19and square. His compatriot Sloane Stephens jumped 18 places in the standings thanks to his victory at the Guadalajara tournament (N.39).

Rybakina and Rublev beat the Vachereau/Schwentek duo in the World Tennis Continental Cup match in China

The Russian-Kazakh duo Andrey Rublev/Elena Rybakina beat the representative of Monaco, Valentin Vachereau and Iga Szwiatek from Poland in the World Tennis Continental Cup match, which takes place in Shenzhen (China).
The meeting ended with the victory of Rublev and Rybakina representing the world team – 6:4, 6:4. Team World beats Team Europe 5–4.
In the final match of the tournament, Andrei Rublev will meet with Italian Flavio Cobolli. The game will take place on Sunday, December 28 at 18:45 local time.
The tournament takes place December 26–28. The eight participants are divided into two teams: Team Europe and Team World. Each player will play two singles matches, and two doubles matches will also be played.
