Titles in Mexico for Papamichael and Sherban

Despina Papamihail and Raluka Serban prevailed in the doubles final at the ITF Mexico tournament to celebrate the $40,000 title.

Despina Papamichael and Raluca Serban won the title at the $40,000 ITF tournament in Mexico by beating the doubles of Colombians Juliana Lizarazo and Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 in the final.

For the Greek tennis player, this was the 36th career ITF doubles title in a total of 65 finals, the first with a Cypriot tennis partner, the first in 2023 but also the first in a 40-person tournament.

This was Sherban’s first doubles title in about 4 years, winning the 2019 25v25 tournament in Nanning, China alongside Ksenia Laskutova.

The final was quite close, with Papamichael and Sherban winning two points more than the Colombians (61-59) while taking two of the three break chances in total.

The title was decided in a super tiebreak that saw Papamichael and Sherban trail 3-2, but from there they won 8 of the last 9 points to drive to victory and cap a great week in Mexico City.
