Sakkari meets Alexandrova in the 2nd round of the tournament in Qatar

On Wednesday (February 15) at around 4:30 p.m., Maria Sakkari (No. 7) will meet Ekaterina Alexandrova (No. 18) in the round of 16 of the Qatar Open.

World No. 18 tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova meets Maria Sakkari in the “16” stage of the Qatar Open on Wednesday (15/2) at around 4:30 p.m.

The 28-year-old Russian beat former No. 1 and current No. 19 Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-2 and ‘sealed’ the fight with Sakkari shortly after the 27-year-old Greek victory over Qingwen Zheng.

Alexandrova lost just three games against the Czech from qualifying (!) and secured her winning debut at the WTA 500 tournament in Doha within 54 minutes of the game.

Sakkari and Alexandrova have a rich history as they have faced each other six times in the past. The Greek and No. 5 on the board this week has five wins compared to just one of the Russians.

It is indeed worth mentioning the fact that in their only duel in which Alexandrova was victorious, Maria stopped due to injury at the beginning of the 1st set of the match between them in the 500m in Moscow (2021).
