Novak Djokovic could participate in Roland-Garros despite his vaccination status

France throws ballast on vaccine measures later this month, which could pave the way for Novak Djokovic to participate in the 2022 edition of the French Open tennis tournament.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Thursday that the vaccine passport will no longer be compulsory to access stadiums and restaurants from March 14. Which means that Djokovic, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, could participate in the Roland-Garros tournament next May, unless the French government does an about-face by then.

“The situation is improving thanks to our collective efforts, announced Castex. We have fulfilled the necessary conditions to begin the next phase of relaxation of measures. As of Monday, March 14, we are suspending the need for a vaccination passport wherever it is required. »

Djokovic was deported from Australia in January after fighting a legal battle over his right to enter the country despite his vaccination status. He missed the Australian Open for this reason.

He told the BBC last month that he is also prepared to miss future grand slams if they require proof of vaccination.

Djokovic has won the French Open twice in his quest for 20 grand slam titles. This is one less than the ATP record, held by Rafael Nadal after he triumphed at the last edition of the Australian Open.

The new measure may also allow Djokovic to take part in the Monte-Carlo Masters – on clay – in April.

ATP number ten initially confirmed participation in Aus Open, then withdrew

24-year-old British tennis player Jack DraperThe national team, which ranks 10th in the ATP rankings, will not be able to play in the 2025 Australian Open.

This became known on December 26. Jack recorded a video message in which he stated that he will miss the Australian series completely:

“Unfortunately, my team and I have decided not to travel to Australia this year. This is a really difficult decision because the Australian Open is a Grand Slam event, one of the biggest tournaments in our sport.”

However, I had been suffering from a hand injury for a long time. I am in the final stages of my recovery and returning to the court so early for five-set matches does not seem like a wise decision for me and my tennis.

Of course, I have already experienced many failures. But this was the hardest and hardest I have ever experienced. I expect to be back racing and competing on the field in 2026. Thank you everyone for your support in 2025; This really means a lot to me. I hope to return to tour soon and compete at the highest level again,” Draper said.

Interestingly, Draper only announced that he would play at a major in Melbourne on the 24th of the same month.

Jack has been away from the Tour since late August, when he withdrew from his match against Zizou Bergs in the second round of the US Open, ending his season early.
