MONTERIE, Mexico – We now know the identity of Leylah Fernandez’s opponent in the quarterfinals in Monterrey.
The second place and defender of the champion, Quebec will face Qiang Wang, a Chinese who is in 116th place.
On Thursday, Wang prevailed 6-0, 6-7 (2), 6-3 over Egypt’s Mayar Sherif.
Wang took five of the game’s six breaks. Her opponent made five double faults.
Fernandez won a WTA maiden title last year in Monterrey, defeating Viktorija Golubic in the final.
This will be the first match between Fernandez and Wang.
The favorite of the tournament is Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. On Thursday night he will face Victoria Tomova from Bulgaria.
