Petros Tsitsipas failed to defeat Jamaica for the national team

The Jamaica national team built a huge lead in the 2nd qualifying round of the World Group II Davis Cup promotion play-offs.

After Michalis Pervolarakis’ defeat by Roland Phillips, not even Petros Tsitsipas managed to get the first point to Greece and Blaise Bicknell gave his country a 2-0 lead in the final of Matchday 1 at Ace Tennis Club in Pallini.

The 22-year-old Greek was defeated 6-3, 7-5 after an hour and 37 minutes of play and now the case of victory for Greece has become very complicated.

The Jamaicans picked up two wins with two athletes, lower in the world rankings than the Greeks, holding their luck in their hands. Now they are just one win away from qualifying, while our representative band will have to make a great comeback on Sunday and win all three duels of the day if they want to qualify.

Greece No. 3 squad and world No. 808 tennis player Petros Tsitsipas, although leading with a break in both sets of the match against 21-year-old Bicknell (0-2 and 1-4), failed to win either of them.

Using his ‘heavy’ forehand as a weapon, ATP World No. 1190 Bicknell has claimed victory with six wins from his last seven matches, confirming he is a very dangerous opponent.

Sunday’s program will open on 11:00GR, with the double game of the two teams. If Greece falls to 1-2, qualification will be decided in the next two games. If Jamaica go 3-0 in doubles then the… humble ceremony will end fairly early.
