(Acapulco) Canadian Denis Shapovalov lost 6-4, 6-4 to American Taylor Fritz in the second round of the Acapulco Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
Leading 2-1 in the first set, Shapovalov has lost three straight games. Fritz was then able to hold a break lead, until he finally won the set 6-4.
In the second set, Fritz gave himself a 5-1 lead. Errors by Shapovalov led Fritz to this score. However, Shapovalov went on to win three games in a row, the last of which saw Fritz foul four in a row.
Shapovalov, however, suffered the same fate in the next game, when Fritz closed the books by depriving his opponent of a single point in the decisive game.
Shapovalov had five aces and finished the match with a 78% efficiency for points won on the first serve.
