Marat Safin could have been number one in the world for six years in a row if he had worked hard, but he is a creator by nature, said Shamil Tarpishchev, president of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF).
– Why did Marat Safin finish so quickly? He is an artist inside. If he plowed like Federer, maybe instead of him he was the first for six years in a row. But he is different by nature – a creator. Therefore, from this point of view, I improvised a lot, hence I made a lot of mistakes. There was probably no 100% concentration, it was necessary to make sure that he did not have a fever, ”Tarpischev told the Championship.
Safin is the winner of 15 tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), twice won Grand Slam tournaments (US Open‑2000, Australian Open‑2005). As part of the Russian national team, he twice became the winner of the Davis Cup. The tennis player ended his career in 2009.
