The comeback was near. Kostyuk lost at the start of the tournament at Indian Wells
Ukrainian tennis player Martha Kostyuk (WTA 40) lost their first match in the WTA 1000 series tournament held in Indian Wells (USA).
Ukrainian lost in the 1/64th final of the competition Rebecca Peterson (Sweden, WTA 103) 3 sets in 3 hours.

In the first set, Marta confidently won with a score of 3:1 (30:0), but she could not hold the advantage – on Rebecca’s serve the score was 5:4 *. In the 10th game of the first set, Martha had 4 set points, but Peterson took the field, then took a break and entered the game. Thus, Kostyuk lost the first set.
The second match also started well for Kostyuk – the Ukrainian was ahead 2:0, but gave up the serve and soon lost 3:4 * on Peterson’s serve. However, Marta managed to take a break and return to the game. With the score 5:5 (30:30), Kostyuk made an ace and then took an easy point. In the 12th game of the second set, Marta interrupted the Swede’s serve and left the second game behind.
March failed at the start of the third set. Kostyuk lost the first three games by giving up two serves. Then Marta lost on her serve 4:2 (40:30), but got the game and then took a break and evened the score – 4:4. Martha was unable to complete the comeback. With a 5:4 score in their favour, Marta lost 3 games in a row and lost to Peterson in a three-hour match.
Summing up, we can conclude that Kostyuk is practically playing with himself. During the match, Marta made as many as 17 double mistakes!
