Three-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina spoke about the information of the British media about the intention of the organizers of Wimbledon to introduce a special code of conduct for Russian tennis players.
According to the Daily Mail, Russian tennis players will be allowed to Wimbledon only after signing a special code of conduct. The document is being finalized, but it is expected that tennis players from Russia will be required during the tournament to refuse any obvious demonstration of support for their country, positive comments about the Russian Federation, as well as wearing the flag. In case of violation of the code, sanctions can be applied to the Russians, up to and including removal.
What’s in that code? If the flag is banned, everything has been known about this for a long time, we have been speaking without it for a long time. And you can glorify the country only by your results. This will be the glorification, – said Rodnina Vprognoze.ru.
The Russians and Belarusians were suspended from the Wimbledon tournament in 2022 due to the events in Ukraine. For this, the organizers of the competition were fined one million dollars, and the WTA and ATP stripped the tournament of rating points.
Wimbledon 2023 will take place from 3 to 16 July.
