Sakkari: “I had heart and fighting spirit”
Maria Sakkari focused on the fighting spirit she showed in the match after her win against Kalinina and helped her achieve the upset.
Maria Sakkari admitted in her court testimony that her game against Kalinina wasn’t good enough, however, the Greek tennis player stressed that she had the heart and fighting spirit that helped her pull off another upset at this year’s Indian Wells.
“My heart and fighting spirit was the only thing I had with me today, my tennis wasn’t good enough. I was trying to put balls on the court.”said the number 7 in the world.
“I missed a lot of shots and it didn’t help my game. It’s very worrying, but I gave myself a chance to survive one more time, so I’ll try to do better in the next game.
In last year’s tournament I had three excellent games on this pitch. As I said at my last race, I hope to stay here for as many days as possible.” he then pointed it out.
