VIDEO. A tennis player from Russia came to the match in the USA wearing a Spartak t-shirt.
The 1/16 final match of the tough tournament of the WTA 1000 series held in Indian Wells (USA) on March 12 was between Jessica Pegula (USA, WTA 3) and Russia. Anastasia Potapova (WTA 28).
The match ended in Pegula’s favor with a score of 3:6, 6:4, 7:5 in three sets.
Potapova entered the match wearing a T-shirt from Moscow football club Spartak.
Polish journalist Adam Romer asked a rhetorical question on his Twitter account:
“Here is the first case to be considered in terms of being accepted or not at Wimbledon. Is this a reason to exclude Potapova or not yet?
According to British media, if the ban for tennis players from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus at Wimbledon this year is lifted, they may be asked to sign the Code of Conduct before the tournament starts. The details of the rules are unknown, but it is unlikely that there will be a clause stating that athletes will be allowed to openly show any support for Russia …
No to mamy pierwszy przypadek do rozpatrzenia w kontekście grry lub nie na #wimbledon. Powód to joke, by Potapową wykluczyć czy jeszcze nie? https://t.co/qSlO6EWGBy
