Head coach Kudermetova says all of Europe should kneel

Nikita VlasovCoach Lesya Tsurenko commented on the stance of the WTA on the admission of tennis players from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to the competition.

– A year ago you and Marta Kostyuk expressed that you hope people will still state their positions to answer questions from Ukrainian women. You were hoping for the best, expecting something. When did this wait end?

– Actually, we expected some steps from Belarusians and Russians in the spring of 2022, we thought that they would somehow speak up and reason would prevail in the WTA. Americans, on the other hand, are drowning for democracy, we think they should have intervened to resolve problems and conflicts and really called people to speak. But nothing followed, as we’ve seen from neither the tennis players nor the WTA. Not then, not throughout the year.

And probably almost immediately, we stopped expecting anything positive in April. The coach of the Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova (Sergey Deekhin, her husband and ex-tennis player – approx.) in conversations with other coaches from different countries directly stated that Putin is handsome and all Europe should kneel. Both Russia and the “21. best politician of the century” Putin does everything right. No one commented on this, everything suited everyone. And then we realized that with such an attitude it is pointless to expect some kind of help for Ukrainian women.
