King of the Desert and No. 1 in the Alkarath World
Carlos Alcarath beat Daniil Medvedev 2-0 in the Indian Wells final and won the 8th title of his career, with the 19-year-old Spaniard even returning to the top of the rankings on Monday (20 March).
Carlos Alcarath did everything he wanted in the final against Daniil Medvedev as the 19-year-old Spaniard won his first California title and 8th of his career 6-3, 6-2 in just 70 minutes while he has not played since Monday (20 /3) returns to number 1 in the world rankings.
With an incredible performance, Alkarath ended his wild run at this year’s Indian Wells in the best way, winning his 3rd Masters and also his 8th title in a total of 10 finals while breaking Medvedev’s winning streak (19).
With three titles in as many Finals, Alkarath became the 3rd player in history after Courier (5) and Davydenko (3) to have 100% in the Masters Finals while being the first to win at least two Sunshine Doubles titles won before retiring 20 years.
“Reading”, focused, mentally impenetrable, Alkarath left no doubts about Medvedev, who finished the match with only 5 winners while the Spaniard had more than three times as many (18).
The Spaniard spent a staggering 76% of first serves and won 81% of the points (30/37), while it’s worth noting that at no point in the final scene was he threatened with a break point while capitalizing on all three break chances that the game saw had.
The start of the final was explosive for Alakarat, who won the first three games (3-0) against his opponent by just three points. After a difficult hold, Medvedev took his first game down to 3-1.
No one threatened from there, the Spaniard completed the set in 36 minutes and took a 1-0 lead in the final.
The 2nd leg of the final became even more difficult for Medvedev, whose serve dropped from 71% to 50% of points won behind the first serve.
Alkarath will break Medvedev’s serve twice and make it 4-0 with two more holds while the pitch clock shows just 54 minutes! From that point forward, Alkarath will hold serve and claim a major win and important title.

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open, which is taking place in Melbourne.
Fourth seed Djokovic beat Botik van de Zandshulp of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the third round. The tennis players spent 2 hours and 44 minutes on the court.
For the 38-year-old Serb, this is his 400th victory in Grand Slam singles tournaments. Previously, Djokovic became the first tennis player in history to win 100 or more games at three different Grand Slam tournaments.
Djokovic’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Jakub Mensik (Czech Republic, 16th seeded) and Ethan Quinn (USA).

Russian Anna Kalinskaya failed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Former world number one Safin will play at the tournament of legends as part of the Australian Open
Former first racket of the world, Russian Marat Safin, will take part in the tournament of legends as part of the Australian Open tennis championship, the press service of the tournament reports.
In addition to Safin, the world team included German Tommy Haas, Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, Andrea Petkovic and Angelique Kerber (both from Germany). Patrick Rafter, Lleyton Hewitt, Mark Philippoussis, Samantha Stosur, Alicia Molik and Casey Dellacqua will play for Australia.
Safin is 45 years old, he is the former first racket of the world, winner of two Grand Slam singles tournaments. In the final of the 2005 Australian Open, he beat Hewitt in four sets. Safin retired from acting in 2009.
The Australian Open is taking place these days in Melbourne.
