Nadal: The Spaniard is out of the top ten after 912 weeks, Tsitsipas is consistently third

The ATP has announced the new world rankings with Rafael Nadal outside the top 10 for the first time since 2005! First Alkarath, third Tsitsipas.

Rafael Nadal’s unthinkable record was broken on Monday morning (03/20) when the new ATP world rankings were announced.

The legendary Spaniard fell to 13th and was outside the top 10 for the first time in 913 weeks. To understand his performance, suffice it to say that Rafa entered the top ten on April 25, 2005.

Since then he has spent 17 straight years, 10 months and 24 days in the top ten, a feat that sets a record in Open Era years.

Made with Flourish

In November 2020, Rafael Nadal had broken Jimmy Connors’ previous record of 788 weeks, reaching 912, a feat that will be hard to beat.

It is worth noting that of the active tennis players, only 14 have a three-digit number of weeks in the top ten in the world rankings.

Among them is Stefanos Tsitsipas, who counts 191 weeks of stay from April 4, 2019 until today.

Made with Flourish

There were several regroupings in the new world rankings, which were announced on Monday morning (March 20). Carlos Alcarath returned at No. 1 and knocked out Novak Djokovic from there, while Stefanos Tsitsipas and Kasper Rudd stayed at No. 3 and No. 4.

Daniil Medvedev and Felix Ozer Aliasim follow in 5th and 6th place, Rublev and Rooney remain unchanged at 7th and 8th.

Hurkatz returned to the top ten, moving up two places to 9th, while Taylor Fritz dropped to 10th with the biggest drop of the top ten athletes losing five places.
