Azarenka faced Sventek for criticizing the WTA after the situation with Tsurenko.
Tennis player from Belarus and former first racket in the world Victoria Azarenko After the Polish woman criticized the WTA and asked for more help and listened to the Ukrainian tennis players, she turned to Iga Sventek (Poland, WTA 1):
“Of course there are some players who have different feelings and behaviors. In general, I don’t quite share Iga’s opinion. I recommend that you take a look at what has been done before commenting.
As a member of the Gamers Council, I will be happy to present all the facts that have been done. And I think that would be a more appropriate way to have this conversation.”
Note that Azarenka is a member of the WTA Players Council.
Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko refused to play with Sobolenko at the Indian Wells tournament and then commented on her decision. Lesya also stated that the only thing WTA does is “give ribbons in the colors of Ukraine so that every player can show their support for the Ukrainian people”.
