Sventek withdrew from the tournament in Miami. Explained the reason for this decision
The world’s first racket Iga Sventek Withdrew from the WTA 1000 series tough tournament held in Miami (USA) (Poland).
The reason for this decision is the rib injury that Iga received at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells, the previous tournament in the USA.
Julia Graber (Austria, WTA 94) will replace Sventek in the main draw in Miami. He got the lucky loser status. In the final qualifiers of this tournament, Yulia lost to Teresa Martintsova with the scores of 6:4, 3:6, 2:6.
Iga will stop playing for now and will miss the Billie Jean King Cup for Poland in mid-April.
“You know I had a serious infection during and after the tournament in Doha. I was allowed to play, but a serious case of coughing resulted in a rib injury. We tried to deal with it and keep playing for as long as possible just to be safe for me.
I’ve been going through checkups for the past few days and my doctor briefed me on the diagnosis. Unfortunately, I still feel a lot of discomfort and pain, so I can’t compete. I need a break to recover, so I need to withdraw from the Miami tournament and the Billie Jean King Cup game.
I’ll let you know when I have my next tournament because everything will depend on the recovery process and the advice of my medical team. I have the best team and we need some time to fix the injury.
It’s a tough decision for me, but health is more important. I’m thankful it’s my first health problem in a long time. I was in excellent form for a very long time, but it’s a sport, sometimes things happen that you can’t control. It’s time to accept it and get well soon,” Iga wrote on Instagram.
Iga Swiatek withdrew #MiamiOpen due to rib injury.
The top seed in the draw is replaced by Lucky Loser Julia Grabher.
