The Princess of Wales will present the prize to the winners of Wimbledon 2023, even if the champions are Russians or Belarusians – media
Princess of Wales Catherine, wife of the heir to the British throne, Prince William of Wales, does not intend to change traditions and agrees to personally present the main prize to the winner of Wimbledon 2023 even if the champions are representatives of Russia or Belarus, reports The Times.
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) are to make a final decision on the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the next two weeks. It is expected that Russian and Belarusian tennis players will be admitted in a neutral status.
Last year, AELTC and LTA announced that Russians and Belarusians were banned from playing at Wimbledon and other competitions in the UK due to the situation in Ukraine. The ATP and WTA fined the organizers $1 million for the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes and stripped the tournament of ranking points.
The 2023 Wimbledon Tennis Tournament will take place from 3 to 16 July.
