(Paris) Canada, holders, will face Italy, Sweden and Chile in Bologna (Italy) in the group stage of the next Davis Cup (September 12-17), according to the draw made on Wednesday in Málaga (Spain).

Australia, 2022 finalists, will play in Manchester against Great Britain, France and Switzerland.

Note the attractive group C which includes Spain and Serbia, but without assurance of the participation of Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic who did not play the last edition.

The top two from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals of the national team competition. This knockout final draw will be played in Malaga from November 21-26.

The groups for the group stage (12-17 September)

  • Group A in Bologna (Italy): Canada (defending champion), Italy, Sweden, Chile
  • Group B in Manchester (Great Britain): Australia, Great Britain, France, Switzerland
  • Group C in Valencia (Spain): Spain, Serbia, Czech Republic, Korea
  • Group D (city in Croatia yet to be determined): Croatia, Netherlands, United States, Finland

Australian Open Sinner in the round of 16 despite cramps

(Melbourne) Double title holder Jannik Sinner had to overcome heat and cramps to overcome American Eliot Spizzirri (85) on Saturdaye) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 and thus qualify for the round of 16 of the Australian Open.

“I had cramps first in my legs, then in my arm, then everywhere,” Sinner admitted.

“But tennis is a mental game. Even without being able to be at my best, I played as well as I could,” he added.

“If I want to go far here like the rest of the season, I have to play [bien] when it’s hot,” he insisted.

In search of a seventh Grand Slam title, the Italian will face his compatriot Luciano Darderi (25e) to try to get back to the quarter-finals in Melbourne.
