Andy Murray wins his 700th career victory
(Indian Wells) Andy Murray had to come from behind on two occasions on Friday to defeat Japan’s Taro Daniel 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the Indian Wells Tennis Open and deserve, suddenly, the 700and victory of his career.
Murray, who received an invitation from the organizers, erased a 1-3 loss in the third set, winning five of the last six games.
The 34-year-old Scotsman broke to make it 3-3 in the deciding set. In the final game, Murray was leading 40-0 and ended the duel on his third match point.
Murray and Daniel crossed swords for the third time already in 2022. Ranked 106and in the world, Daniel won at the Australian Open. Murray, now 88and in the world, avenged that failure in Doha last month.
Murray has never won in Indian Wells. His best performance dates back to 2009 when he lost in the final against Rafael Nadal. In 2007 and 2015, he reached the semi-finals, losing each time to Novak Djokovic.
