This tournament was attended by Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina, American Alisha Parks, Lauren Davis, Cathy McNally and Shelby Rogers.
“I am grateful to all the players and the tournament for what we have done. It is very important to continue helping the Ukrainian people. This is a truly special moment where we can help in many ways,” Svitolina said during the event.
They managed to raise $100,000 during the tournament, as Elina reports on her Instagram:
“The war in Ukraine is not over yet, and each of us is fighting on our own front and doing our best in our own way. Glory to Ukraine!” wrote Elina.
Note that today, on April 3, Svitolina will play her first match at WTA level in a year. The first rival is Yulia Putintseva. Elina commented on her return:
“I miss the audience. I really miss going out on the field and experiencing these moments, this excitement. It’s great to be back on the Tour. Of course, things are different now, but it’s great in a lot of ways. I love being here in Charleston. I feel ready. I’ve been here before.” It will be a long way to get back to the ground, but this challenge excites me.”
