Tsitsipas: ‘I want great results for my country and for the world that follows me’
After the Monte Carlo Masters draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas said he was looking forward to the ‘clay season’ that was about to begin, while stressing that his goal was big results
On Friday (April 7th), Stefanos Tsitsipas got to know the route he has to take in his attempt to defend his Monte Carlo Masters title.
The Greek tennis player and number 3 in the world was excited about the upcoming clay court season and at the same time expressed his wish for success good results for his country and the world that follows him.
“I’m feeling really good. I’m looking forward to the clay court season. It’s an amazing part of the year, we’re going to have a lot of tennis over the next few months and I think we’re going to see some really nice games. I’m looking forward to it too Roland Garros, but now I’m concentrating on Monte-Carlo. Monte-Carlo is my home, it’s a place that gave me wonderful memories.”
How he sees a draw and a board: “I always try to focus on each game individually. I can’t control what happens in a draw, what I can do is shape the board. And that will happen if I play well every round. That’s why I have to I go out on the pitch to do my best Sometimes it’s good to have very strong opponents at the beginning of a tournament because they force you to give 100% so later it can be a good warm up for bigger games It There are no easy games, no matter how good you are, all players in the top 100 are fighting for these trophies, so you have to be well prepared for every game.”
On his collaboration with Petros Tsitsipas for the Monte Carlo double and the wild card they received from the organizers: “We’ve had some wins in the last few months. We want a better result this time. I thank the organization for giving us this wildcard. For me and Petros, this is of course the most important tournament after the Grand Slams. This is home and we can’t wait to get out there and do our best.”
About his goal for this year: “My goal for this season is to be well prepared, consistent and healthy because I’ve had problems in the last few months. I hope the sand treats my body well and I’m quite ambitious. I want great results, I want to achieve good results for the people around me, for my country and for the world that follows me”.
On his penchant for “natural” surfaces: “Dirt and grass can’t harm you, these are soft surfaces, we have to respect them. I think most injuries are caused on hard surfaces. They are artificial surfaces, unlike dirt and grass. Hard surfaces can be very tiring Bodies can be very difficult to manage at times, so the more sand and grass we have on the Tour, the better off players are to have long careers.
