Billie Jean King Cup: The draw for the women’s national tennis team at this event
The women’s national tennis team was drawn into the first group of the Billie Jean King Cup along with Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta and hosts Portugal.
In Portugal, more precisely in the city of Oeiras, the women’s national team is fighting for promotion to the 1st division of the Billie Jean King Cup this week (April 10-15).
The Greek team consisting of Maria Sakkari, Valentini Grammatikopoulou, Despina Papamichael and Martha Matoula were drawn into the 1st group along with Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta and hosts Portugal.
Sappho Sakellaridis is absent from the Greek delegation while Agni Stefanou is the head of the delegation. The matches will take place on clay soil with two singles matches and one doubles match, with the winning team being the one that achieves both victories.
In the other group are Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Ireland, South Africa and Kosovo. Of the two groups (11 teams in total, Algeria withdrew), promotion to the 1st division goes to the team that finishes 1st in each group, while the same happens for relegation, with the bottom team of each group being relegated.
