Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini, who was previously in the top 10 of the world rankings, spoke about psychological problems.
– Over the years, I realized that the psychological component, perhaps, is the main thing in tennis. I increasingly follow a certain type of mental training, also because of the need to get out of certain situations. I remember once, when I was in Paris, I woke up almost crying.
Thought I was dying. I was sweating, I had tachycardia, I couldn’t feel my left hand. Thought I was having a heart attack. But no, it was a panic attack. The next day I went to the court and could not breathe properly.
These panic attacks need to be managed and you need to work on it by training your mind to exercise. At first I was scared, but not as a tennis player, but as an ordinary person. It’s not about the suffering on the court, it’s the suffering that I’m willing to experience. But off the court, I don’t want to suffer like that. I was looking for a solution and I found it, but I struggled a lot,” Fognini said in an interview with L’Ultimo Uomo.
