Tsitsipas: “It’s a challenge for me whether I play with Jarry or Popyrin”

Stefanos Tsitsipas stated he was looking forward to his return to the Monte Carlo tournament while arguing that whether he faced Nicolas Zari or Alexei Popyrin in the round of 16 would be a challenge for him.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.3) took the first step towards Monaco’s title defense by qualifying uncut after Benjamin Bonzi retired after completing game 5 in the 1st set due to a left wrist injury.

After wishing the 26-year-old Frenchman a speedy recovery, the Greek tennis player then spoke about the game, but also about Alexei Popyrin and Nikolas Tzari, one of whom will face M. in the “16” stage on Thursday.

“It was very unfortunate what happened to my opponent. I wish him all the best for the future.” said the number 3 in the world. While the game was being played, Tsitsipas stressed: “I had a very good start and was 3-0 up. I’m happy to be back in Monte Carlo. It’s a unique place and I’m always happy to play on these pitches, they bring back good memories.”

As for the sequel, the Greek tennis player said: “They are both very good players. I know that they can both play well on clay and for me it will be a challenge for each of them.”

Tsitsipas will compete on M. Thursday for the 3rd round of Monte Carlo, but on M. Wednesday afternoon together with his brother Petros against the No. 3 on the board, Marcelo Arevalo and with Jean-Julien Roger. The goal is the quarter-final qualifier in double.
