After a great match full of twists and turns, Daniil Medvedev prevailed 2-1 against Alexander Zverev and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.
A terrible match that lasted almost three hours was offered by tennis friends Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. The two dueled until the final with No. 5 in the world rankings and won 2:1.
It was Zverev who got into the match better, serving twice for finisher and having two match points in the third match point tie break, but Medvedev found a way to win.
The match: In the first set it was Daniil Medvedev who broke first but it was Alexander Zverev who smiled. Medvedev broke in the third game and took a 2-1 lead, but his German opponent responded with four games in a row to make it 5-2. The two athletes then held to close the first set 6-3 in Zverev’s favour
The second set was not for the faint of heart. The tennis players gave it their all, breaking each other’s serves seven times, with Medvedev emerging victorious this time.
The Russian held at love in the first game, then four breaks in a row (two each) followed, leaving us 3-2 in Medvedev’s favour.
The two held for three games, with Zverev breaking, leading 5-4 and serving for the match. It was at this point, however, that Medvedev broke, held his own serve and then went 7-5 with a second break and set fourth in the set to send the match into the third set.
We were missing the breakstorm of the two previous sentences. Medvedev threatened first in game six but Zverev held at love and erased five break points. On the contrary, the German made the break to lead 5: 4 at his first chance.
As in the second set, Medvedev also interrupted Zverev’s serve in the third set when he served at the end of the match. Only this time we didn’t have another break and were thus led into the tie-break.
But the upheaval didn’t stop there. Medvedev led 5-2, but Zverev took four points in a row to reach match point.
But the one who smiled was his opponent. Medvedev deleted two match points and in the first one he created, he finished the set and the match 6-3 5-7 6-7 (7).
