Rublev made it to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters
German Straff tried to steal the second set and grab a surprise third, but Andrei Rublev found a way to advance 2-0 to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Dominant in the first movement, timid in the second, but mission accomplished for him Andrei Rublevwho defeated a struggling Jean-Léonard Straff 6-1, 7-6 (5) after 100 minutes of play to book his first ticket to the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.
In the first set, the 32-year-old German started better with the “Guten-Abend” break, but the Russian canceled it immediately and restored the equalizer in the match (1:1). The fifth in the world rankings then successfully defended his serve for the first time and never looked back (2:1).
With an impressive winning streak to the end, he ended the first round perfectly with a total of 3 breaks and laid the foundation for the clear victory (6-1).
In the second and last part of the match, the No. 100 in the ATP rankings served first from the start, which is why he kept a slight lead until the 5th game and already had two big holds in between (3-2). In the very next game, the 25-year-old Russian equalized again from the service line, in the 7th he made a new break and kept his opponent at zero (4:3).
Immediate response from Straff who erased the break and even stayed in the match until game 12 and sent it into the tiebreak to decide there if we have a winner or a decider (6-6). After 11 minutes and 36 seconds, Rublev emerged victorious from the “battle”, earning the first 7 points and securing a place in the semifinals of the first clay court event of the season (7-6(5).
