Fritz – Tsitsipas 2:0: Poor performance and elimination in the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ run at the Monte Carlo Masters ended in the quarterfinals as American Taylor Fritz won an impressive 2-0 sets against the Greek champions and deservedly secured his place in the “4” of the tournament.
Taylor Fritz needed just 71 minutes but also conceded just 6 games against two-time Monte Carlo Masters champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, winning 6-2, 6-4 to secure his presence in the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in his career.
The result denies Tsitsipas, ranked 3, a chance to defend the title he won last year while the American, ranked 10th in the world, faces Andrei Rublev for a place in the grand final.
Stefanos Tsitsipas came into the game very sluggishly, which Fritz took advantage of, breaking both of his opponent’s first serves and leading a good morning 4-0 in the games to earn his almost non-stop opener win win 6-2.
In the second set, the Greek champion showed improvement (dominant in all statistical categories his opponent in the first set), with the game closing and both athletes going 3-3, each protecting serves.
Somewhere Fritz’s first break came, Tsitsipas immediately reacted with his own break to make it 4: 4, but the American was unstoppable and took the lead with a second break point (fourth overall in the game).
It was not only competitive but also psychological as he was dominant in game ten and deservedly won the second set in 39 minutes, earning him a spot in the semifinals against Rublev.
