Rooney – Rublev 1-2: He won the Monte Carlo Masters by surprise

Rooney (No. 9) won the first set but Rublev (No. 6) came back and managed to end the upset by winning the 1000th Monte Carlo Masters trophy.

Andrei Rublev won his first ATP Masters 1000. World No. 6 beat Holger Rune (No. 9) 2-1 to lift the trophy at the tournament in Monte Carlo.


Rune won the first set 7-5 in 56 minutes. The 19-year-old Dane was the first to find the break and in the 12th game he managed a second to fix the 1-0.

Rublev came back stronger and triumphantly won the second set 6-2 in 34 minutes, putting pressure on his opponent.

In the third set, despite losing 4-1, the Russian managed to reverse the situation and claim victory in a match that lasted over 2.5 hours.
