Marta KOSTIUK: “Tennis players from Russia are surprised why we don’t smile at them”
In an interview with idnes.cz, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk talked about her relationship with players from Russia and Belarus after a far-reaching invasion.
– How do Russian and Belarusian tennis players behave in locker rooms and hotels?
– Some wonder why we don’t smile at them: “We didn’t do anything wrong. We don’t want war.” as we want! They don’t say anything bad, but they don’t say anything good either.
– How many Russians and Belarusians have reported to you privately that they oppose Putin’s aggression?
– About 50 people… One, two, three, four, five – no more. They have admitted that their country is doing something truly despicable and they want the war to end with a Ukrainian victory. The rest can seek peace, but only if Russia wins. Its citizens will gladly sacrifice millions of lives to avoid defeat. They categorically refuse but I am sure they will lose.
