Russian ex-tennis player and coach Andrei Chesnokov believes that after winning the Masters, Andrei Rublev can try to win the Grand Slam tournament.

Rublev beat Dane Holger Rune 5:7, 6:2, 7:5 in the Masters final in Monte Carlo on Sunday. In the third set, the Russian lost 1:4.

– First of all, I would like to congratulate Andrey. For him, this is the first title of this level.

The climax of the match was when the score was 4:1 in the set and 0:30 in the game. Rublev was hanging by a thread from losing! If we talk about the game with the score in the set 4:1, then there was even less score. It was practically a hidden matchball. Then there was a moment at 4:2 on the pitch Rune. Double fault and 0:15 is a gift. And then Rune hits – and his string breaks, the ball flies away – 0:30. And again double – three balls! Both you and I, standing on the court, could have 0:40 on Rune’s serve. It was evident that the Dane was tired. This became especially noticeable after a brilliant rally, when, with the score 5:4 in favor of Rune, Rublev filed. And he earned the first point brilliantly! It was a good ending.

Andrei has been in the top ten tennis players in the world for more than one year. And now he won the first big title in his career. Such a victory gives confidence that you can move on. Now you can try to hook the Grand Slam,” Chesnokov told Metaratings.ru.

For the 25-year-old Russian, this is the 13th ATP trophy, as well as the first victory in the Masters series tournaments.
