Sherbrooke Phoenix signed a 2-1 win over Oceanic on penalties Wednesday night, good for their sixth straight win.
After 1-0, Joshua Roy scored for Serbrook 2:35 from the end of regular time to equalize the game and force the overtime. Hope for the Montreal Canadiens, Roy thus won a point in 19th consecutive game.
Shortly before, goalkeeper Gabriel Robert had made a misplaced removal trying to score in an empty net, which was a little misplaced.
Only on penalties, after the goal of his teammate Xavier Parent, Roy’s attempt failed against Robert. Mathis Gauthier responded for Rimouski, but Sherbrooke goalkeeper Ivan Zhigalov closed the door on the next three shots as Justin Gill scored the decisive goal in the fifth round.
William Dumoulin opened the scoring after 7 minutes in the first period, in power play but stopped in the penalty shootout.
Roy was considered to have equalized the score in the middle of the third period, hitting a Xavier parent’s lob on the fly. Officials, however, ruled that the disc was hit higher than allowed.
Robert made 30 saves, seven more than Ivan Zigalov, who managed to stop Cam Thompson.
Rochette takes the measure of Cats
Théo Rochette scored two goals and provided two assists in a 5-2 victory for the Quebec Remparts over the Shawinigan Cataractes in a match between the two best teams in the QMJHL.
The Waterfalls, which suffered a second consecutive defeat, were twice ahead in this meeting. William Veillette opened the scoring for Shawinigan with his ninth of the season at 13:22 on the first penalty.
Quebec quickly tied the game in second place at Nathan Gaucher 22nd.
Alexis Bonefon, with his seventh season, replaced Katarraktis in advance.
The rest of the attack was handled by Patrick Roy’s men. Olivier Coulomb equalized 2-2.
Rochette with his first, Zachary Bolduc and again Rochette in power play put the last nail in the coffin of the Cataractes.
Zachary Gravel and Louis Crevier each had two assists in the win.
