Francis Tiafoe on Sportish: “I have no problem with Stefanos, he is a superstar all over the world”
In an interview with Sportish, Francis Tiafoe spoke about his goals during the season, his energy on the pitch and at the same time made it clear that he has no rivalry with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
One of the world’s best tennis players visited our country. THE Franz Tiafoe was in Greece as part of the IMG Future Stars tournament held at TATÓI Club. The 25-year-old American tennis player, who is currently ranked 11th in the world, spoke about his goals during this crucial part of the season.
“My goal is to be in the top 10. I’m excited to see what I can do, if I can have a solid clay court season. The second part of the season is my best. I love playing on grass, I love it to play in the US The next few weeks are big for me and I want to stay focused, stay in the moment and chase it‘ he said characteristically.
Tiafoe is notable for his humor but also for his intense personality on and off the pitch: “The greatest weapon I have is being myself. The way I can talk to people when I’m playing is a show. I am myself. I am not someone I am not.
When I go out and make everyone who sees me happy, I feel good. If I put a smile on people’s faces in competitions, that’s a win. It’s an incredible position to be in right now.”
I made a joke with Stefanos
A few days ago, Stefanos Tsitsipas described himself with a Greek expression and emphasized that he had the patience of a donkey.
Francis Tiafoe responded with an Instagram Story, writing: “Great respect for the guy, great player, but with those statements you need to relax my friend.” However, the American clarifies that he has no animosity with Tsitsipas.
“We don’t have beef (laughs). Me and Steph don’t have beef. I know we’re in Greece and he’s not just a superstar here, he’s a superstar all over the planet. I don’t have beef with stefanos. He’s a great tennis player, we had great duels together. I made a joke, that’s all. His lines are funny too.” he explained.
Then he added: “It’s an element of life. I think in 2023 you can’t say anything because otherwise you’re against someone. We’re okay with Stefanos.”
Tsitsipas and Tiafos have met five times in total, with the Greek tennis player winning two of them, one of them at the Tokyo Olympics for the round of 32.
