Some Russian tennis players have signed a document that will allow them to play at Wimbledon in a neutral status
Several Russian and Belarusian players have signed a document that will allow them to play at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in a neutral status, said Sally Bolton, CEO of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC).
At the end of March, AELTC, which is the organizer of Wimbledon, announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the competition in a neutral status and subject to “certain conditions”.
“Once we made the announcement, the players were able to sign the declarations, and they can do so until the deadline for applications. I won’t share the details of who exactly signed, but a number of players did.
We listened to the feedback from the athletes over the past year and they said they wanted to be able to sign the declaration. They fully understand what they are signing up for,” Bolton Reuters quotes.
She also clarified that fans with the national symbols of Russia and Belarus will not be able to get into the stands.
– The conditions for the passage of spectators to the territory were updated this year. It is forbidden to bring Russian or Belarusian flags into the territory, as well as any other symbols or signs of support for the NWO. Security personnel will be clearly informed about what fans can and cannot take with them. The tournament will not be shown in Russia or Belarus. The presence of representatives of the Russian media at the tournament is not welcome, – said the CEO of AELTC, quoted by the Daily Mail.
Wimbledon will take place July 3-16.
