Sakkari: Her match against Rous for the Madrid Open on Thursday afternoon
Maria Sakkari enters the fight of the Madrid Open and meets Arantsa Rous on Thursday afternoon (April 27, 12:00 p.m.).
32-year-old Dutch No. 107 Arantsa Roos will be Maria Sakkari’s first opponent at the Madrid Open in a match that starts on Thursday (4/27) at 12:00 CET in the first game of Court 3.
Earlier in the day, the Russian, who came out of qualifiers, was eliminated 7-5, 6-2 after 1.5 hours, marking her third straight win in Madrid this year (after two in qualifiers) and without one losing set.
Sakkari and Rous have faced each other four times in the past, with the Greek tennis player winning just as many times after conceding just one set against the Dutch (8-1) in their last meeting (2022) on the Parma clay court tournament, in which Sakkari had to overcome excitement to progress to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win.
The winner of this duel will face either Donna Vektis or Rebecca Masarova in the match that follows the match between Sakkari and Rous.
