SVITOLINA: “I want to bring back that feeling when you win matches, tournaments”
Former third racket in the world and former leader of Ukrainian women’s tennis Elina Svitolina He commented on the victory over Despina Papamichail in the 1/16 final of the clay tournament of the WTA 250 series in Saint-Malo:
“It was a good match. It wasn’t easy, but I’m happy with the way I played the second set, to be able to return to my level of play. I am happy that I was able to win today. Every match I get stronger, every match I try to do my best. Yes, the first set was not easy today, but after that I played better with each draw and played really well for myself in the second set.
Support for the French tribunes? I think it worked for me (laughs). Honestly, I’m very grateful for the support. Now that I’m back in the game and starting from scratch, which isn’t easy, I really need it.
I want to win every time I go out on the field, I want to give back that feeling when I win matches and tournaments. I always have the highest goals in my head but now I need to break everything down into separate steps.
Am I going to Roland Garros? Yes, I plan to perform there and try to approach him well.”
On May 3, Svitolina will continue to perform at the French competitions. In the 1/8 finals, Elina will play with Ysaline Bonaventure.
