Vesnina urged to contact the WTA and ITF so that the situation with Dyachenko does not happen again

Olympic tennis champion Elena Vesnina recommended consulting with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to avoid a repeat of the situation with Vitalia Dyachenko.

Dyachenko was not allowed to board the Polish airline LOT Airlines due to the company’s policy not to put Russian citizens on the plane. The athlete was going to fly from Cairo to Nice via Warsaw.

Tennis players buy their own tickets. But for this, the WTA and ITF usually issue special invitations to athletes who will participate in tournaments under the auspices of this organization, just in case. But they had no power in this situation. However, be sure to contact the WTA and ITF so that they know which airline is not worth doing business with. So that they pay attention to the rules for transporting passengers and no longer allow such cases.

Many athletes from Russia and Belarus can get into such a situation. Among them may be minors. And to be in such a situation is very scary and unpleasant. This is unacceptable, said Vesnina RT.

Dyachenko is the winner of one WTA tournament in doubles. The tennis player takes the 250th place in the world ranking.
