Sakkari with Masarova in the third round of the Madrid Open
Rebecca Masarova will be the opponent of Maria Sakkari in the third round of the Madrid Open, the two tennis players will face each other on Saturday (April 29).
Rebekah Masarova (No.74) qualified for the 3rd round of the Madrid Open when she defeated Donna Vekic 6-1, 7-6(5) after an hour and 29 minutes and booked a ‘date’ with Maria Sakkari ( No. 9) in the “32”.
This will be the first on-court encounter for the 27-year-old Greek tennis player, ranked No. 74 in the world, who is expected to break her career high after today’s win when the WTA rankings are updated.
Technically, the 23-year-old Spaniard made an impressive start to the first set, starting a series of 3/3 games won, with a break in between (3:0).
The 26-year-old Croatian lost with a love game (40:0), but Masarova successfully completed the first round with another decisive run and laid the foundation for the direct victory (6:1).
In the second part, the Spaniard broke off with “Guten Abend” and built up the deficit with a successful service game (2:0).
The world No. 23 immediately regained momentum by erasing the first break and grabbing another in game 7 (5-2), but Masarova managed to bounce back to win the match by moving to 2nd. Her opponent’s break responded (5-). 5).
In the 11th game, the Spaniard brought Vekic’s service up and down with another “transgression” (6-5), but failed to successfully serve to victory later in the match, and so both sides were called upon to resolve differences in the tie-break (6 -6).
There, after almost 11 minutes, Masarova defeated “battle” Vekic 7-5 in the individual classification and secured a spot for the 3rd round of the WTA 1000 event (7-6(5).
