The ATP has announced that from 2025 there will be no line judges at all of its tournaments and the announcements will be made via Electronic Line Calling Live.

The ATP has announced that the Electronic Line Calling Live system will be used in all Tour tournaments from 2025, which means we will never see linesmen at tennis matches again.

ELC Live was first tested at the NextGen Finals in Milan as part of a series of ambitious innovations, some of which have already been implemented on the tour. In recent years the system has been voluntary and has become widespread in the Covid-19 pandemic.

ELC Live coverage on all courts also provides comprehensive player and ball tracking throughout the tour, providing a massive amount of player performance analysis data as well as the development of new tennis statistics in partnership with Tennis Data Innovations (TDI).

“Tradition is at the heart of tennis and referees have played a huge role in the sport over the years.”said ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi.

“However, we have a responsibility to embrace innovation and new technologies. Our sport deserves to have the most authoritative type of refereeing and we look forward to introducing it across the Tour from 2025.”
