The Tsitsipas brothers were defeated in straight sets (7-6, 7-5) by Marcelo Arevalo and Jean Julien, ending their run at the Madrid Open.

Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas were defeated by fourth-placed Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Roger 7-6(7), 7-5 after an hour and 43 minutes after being eliminated from the Madrid Open doubles.

The Greek duo’s mission against the experienced doubles players (they had also been beaten in Monte Carlo) was difficult from the start, but the Tsitsipas brothers lost the game with four break points in their opponents’ first service game.

Arevalo and Roger managed to eliminate all four, with the set then going into a tiebreak. There they led 5/2 and even had the balls to close the set, but the Tsitsipas brothers not only equalized with back-to-back points from Petros Tsitsipas, they also equaled the set point (6/5).

From there Arevalo and Roger won 4 of the last 5 points to make it 1-0.

In the end everything was decided in the second set, both couples held their serve (5-5), with him? Arevalo and Roger reach a break (6-5) and then serve out to get through to qualifying.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is now concentrating on the singles and his premiere in Madrid against Dominic Thiem, a match that takes place on Saturday (29/4) at 21:00 GMT.
