Madrid Open: On Monday the games of Tsitsipas and Sakkaris
Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas will both compete at the Madrid Open on Monday (May 1st).
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari face off again in back-to-back matches on May 1 in Madrid’s main square, with the Greek tennis player leading the way this time as she joins Manolo Santana 17:00 (Novasports 6), in the afternoon against the furious Paula Bandoza with the aim of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the competition.
This will be the third clash between them in which both tennis players count a win. In their first game (group stage of WTA Finals) in 2021, the Spaniard won 7-6(4), 6-4, while in the last one (Indian Wells semifinals) in 2022, Sakkari prevailed 6-2, 4. 6, 6-1.
At 21.00 (cosmosport 6) will enter the court Stefanos Tsitsipas, who will face Argentinian and world No. 31 Sebastian Baez in the 3rd round. The two players also faced each other at the Australian Open 2022 (2nd round) where Tsitsipas, despite losing a set, finished 7-6(1) 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 prevailed.
The Monday program (1/5) will be opened on the Center Court (12:00 GR) by Daniil Medvedev, who will then (14:00 GR) watch the very interesting game of 16-year-old Mira Andreeva with Arina Sambalenka.
In Arantxa Sanchez, the program will open (12:00 pm GR) with Mayar Cherif and Elise Mertens, followed by the match between Pedro Katsin and Francis Tiafoe, while then the match between Roman Safiulin and Bernabés Thapata Mirages takes place.
The American Taylor Fritz, who will play against the Chilean Cristian Garin, also secures the qualification for the 4th round.
