Sakkari: “I didn’t play very well, but I was mentally very strong”
Maria Sakkari claimed that Arina Sabalenka, who she will face in the Madrid Open semifinals, is “the most difficult opponent” while declaring that she is proud of her progress in the tournament so far.
Maria Sakkari qualified for the semi-finals of the Madrid Open for the first time in her career and will meet Arina Sambalenka, number 2 in the world rankings, on Thursday afternoon (May 4th).
Characteristically, the Greek tennis player said about her opponent after the secured qualification: “She’s probably the toughest opponent right now.
She is in great form and a very strong player. I’ll think about it from tomorrow evening. Now I want to enjoy my win, it means a lot to me. I didn’t play very well today, but I was mentally very strong.” said first and then referred to phow she will celebrate her victory:
“Have a good dinner and just rest. I’ll enjoy my day off tomorrow. I’m very happy to have gotten this far in Madrid. I want to go as far as possible. It means a lot to me, me.” I look forward to continuing.”
