The judge on the tower asked the Russian Daniil Medvedev not to spit on the court during the match of the third round of the tennis tournament in Madrid against Alexander Shevchenko, journalist Chris Goldsmith wrote on Twitter.
In response, the athlete cited the example of football players who do not hesitate to spit on the lawn during games.
On Monday, Medvedev advanced to the next round of the Masters clay tournament in Madrid, beating compatriot Shevchenko in three sets – 4:6, 6:1, 7:5.
In the next round of the competition, Medvedev will play with Russian Aslan Karatsev.
